How wide the opening is
A 4m pair costs more than a 3m pair, and past roughly 5m a sliding gate usually becomes the sensible answer rather than swing leaves.
Search this question and you will find ranges — £3,000 to £12,000, sometimes wider — which are accurate and no help at all when you are trying to work out whether to bother. So here are our actual figures, for actual gates, installed.
Prices in the table below include VAT, and assume suitable existing pillars, reasonably level ground and a power supply near the entrance. Where that is not the case, the survey picks it up and we tell you before you commit to anything.
Price your own
Two minutes and you will have a figure, not a range.
Pick your size, design, colour, automation and access options and the builder totals it as you go, with the VAT shown separately.
Build & Price My GatePublished, fixed, and the same for everyone. No option here is priced by how the conversation is going. Intercom prices are add-on prices with a new gate installation. Fitting an intercom to gates you already have is quoted separately.
Black and grey are included as standard.
Supplied, installed and programmed.
No cable needed between the gate and the house.
Calls your mobile, with an integral keypad.
See who is there, from indoors or from your phone. Includes a cable run of up to 50m.
Where the existing pillars will not carry the load.
Two are included with every automated gate.
Per gate system per year. Full mechanical and electrical check, safety devices tested and the closing forces recorded.
A 4m pair costs more than a 3m pair, and past roughly 5m a sliding gate usually becomes the sensible answer rather than swing leaves.
Hanging gates on sound existing pillars is the cheapest start. New posts add £1,554 including VAT, and rebuilding failed masonry is a job for a builder, not us.
A supply already at the entrance costs nothing extra. A long run back to the house means trenching, ducting and an electrician.
A swing gate needs to clear the ground through its whole arc. A slope can mean regrading, a different hinge set, or switching to a sliding gate.
Underground is tidier and costs more — £700 including VAT more than above-ground automation.
A keypad is £474 including VAT. A video intercom with app access is from £1,695 including VAT when it goes in with the gates. This is usually the single biggest swing between two otherwise identical quotes.
Aluminium is the value option and needs no upkeep. Timber and steel cost more to buy, weigh more, and need heavier automation to suit.
Because that range is true and useless at the same time. It covers a small manual gate at one end and a bespoke automated entrance with video entry at the other. We would rather publish what our actual gates cost, so you can work out where you sit before speaking to anyone.
It is a genuine starting price for a genuine specification, not a headline figure with the important parts stripped out. The final written quotation follows a site survey, because the survey is what confirms the pillars, the ground, the power and the access. If the survey changes the number, we tell you why.
Yes. Every price we publish includes VAT, on this page and in the gate builder. The builder also shows the VAT and the ex-VAT figure beneath your total, so anyone reclaiming it has the split.
The gates, the automation, two remote handsets, photocells and safety edges, installation, setup, commissioning, a force test and a handover pack. Not: groundworks, new power supplies, removal of existing gates, or rebuilding pillars.
Yes, on acceptance of the written quotation. That is also what secures the current month’s offer if you are taking one up.
It depends entirely on the condition of the gates, the posts and the hinges — automation puts loads through a gate that hand operation never does. We check all three at survey and quote separately. Sometimes the honest answer is that new gates cost less than making old ones work.
Repairs are quoted per job. Ring us, describe the fault, and we will tell you what the call-out charge is before anyone is booked in.
Send a couple of photographs and rough measurements of your entrance and we'll come back with a realistic figure. Or ring 01291 408804 and talk it through.
